MORE than 400 Australian couples have taken advantage of a new “e-divorce” service, prompting accusations from family groups that it is further weakening the institution of marriage.
The online service, which enables some couples to avoid court altogether – with paperwork requiring no lawyers – gave a new meaning to the phrase “quickie divorce”.

I’m all for advances in technology, but the fact that you can now go online to a website and file for divorce via your computer is absurd! The bureaucrat who thought of this idea deserves to be shot.
The crux of the story is, don’t rush into marriage! Wait a while, and make sure your partner is the right person for you, before you make what should be a lifetime committment.

I’m actually getting married this weekend…I wonder if this tool comes with an anulment feature incase I change my mind a day or two after the wedding.
In all seriousness you are spot on, I’ve been with my lady for 8 years so I’m pretty sure we are right to marry!
I used this service last year (2010).
I was with my ex-wife for 8 years before we were married, but 2 years later she left me and abducted our children then had them separated from each other and hidden for 3 months until the Australian Federal police located them. I now have custody of both children.
My reason for using the service was because it was easier and cheaper than using a solicitor, althoufgh a Court appearance was mandatory at the Federal Magistrates Court in Melbourne.
I love the service. One reason is because it stops the money-hungry ‘legal eagles’ from charging the incredibly expensive fees that they do. I would have still divorced her even if the service was NOT available, so I do not agree with with the comments in the article. The bureaucrat who thought of this idea deserves a bloody medal in my opinion! What it did do was save me an enormous amount of money that was better off going towards my childrens education, rather than in some rich overpriced lawyers pocket. It also saved me numerous trips from Bendigo to Melbourne.
