I was with my ex-wife for 8 years before we were married, but 2 years later she left me and abducted our children then had them separated from each other and hidden for 3 months until the Australian Federal police located them. I now have custody of both children. My reason for using the service was because it was easier and cheaper than using a solicitor, althoufgh a Court appearance was mandatory at the Federal Magistrates Court in Melbourne. I love the service. One reason is because it stops the money-hungry 'legal eagles' from charging the incredibly expensive fees that they do. I would have still divorced her even if the service was NOT available, so I do not agree with with the comments in the article. The bureaucrat who thought of this idea deserves a bloody medal in my opinion! What it did do was save me an enormous amount of money that was better off going towards my childrens education, rather than in some rich overpriced lawyers pocket. It also saved me numerous trips from Bendigo to Melbourne. I used this service last year (2010).
