…Well not quite “school”, but university. Having given up on the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems at Monash University which I started in 2009 straight out of high school, I took off 2010 and executive produced Get Cereal TV for SYN and C31 Melbourne and Geelong.

I came to the realisation that I did not want to follow IT as a career path (frankly, the Monash degree was boring me to buggery…it was all theory) so I’m now going to study something I’m truly passionate in…the media.

I recently received two offers to study a Bachelor of Media and Communications through VTAC; an early offer from Swinburne University in Hawthorn, and a 1st round offer from Deakin University. I now have to decide which offer to take…and soon.

The Swinburne course seems to offer a good general grounding in the media industry, however is fairly limited. Meanwhile, the Deakin course seems to be really flexible and allows me to specialise in the section of the media I’m most passionate about, television. Plus Deakin has a TV studio on campus, and is closer to where I live (Burwood, compared to Hawthorn).

I would be interested to hear of any opinions people have, whether you do one of the courses, or about the universities in general. Hit me up!

MORE than 400 Australian couples have taken advantage of a new “e-divorce” service, prompting accusations from family groups that it is further weakening the institution of marriage.

The online service, which enables some couples to avoid court altogether – with paperwork requiring no lawyers – gave a new meaning to the phrase “quickie divorce”.

Source: Herald Sun

I’m all for advances in technology, but the fact that you can now go online to a website and file for divorce via your computer is absurd! The bureaucrat who thought of this idea deserves to be shot.

The crux of the story is, don’t rush into marriage! Wait a while, and make sure your partner is the right person for you, before you make what should be a lifetime committment.

THE Federal Government’s controversial internet censorship scheme may extend to filter more online traffic than was first thought, Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy revealed today.

In a post on his department’s blog, Senator Conroy today said technology that could filter data sent directly between computers would be tested as part of the upcoming live filtering trial.

“Technology that filters peer-to-peer and BitTorrent traffic does exist and it is anticipated that the effectiveness of this will be tested in the live pilot trial,” Senator Conroy said.

Peer-to-peer file-sharing technology is the most common way for computer users to share video, picture and music files over the internet.

It was previously thought the Government’s filtering plan would be restricted to traffic on the “world wide web” – the channel through which users view websites like news.com.au.

Senator Conroy revealed the plan to trial peer-to-peer filtering technology in a reply to critical comments made on the Digital Economy Future Directions blog launched earlier this month.

The blog was launched to encourage public input on the future of Australia’s digital economy, but has so far been saturated with comments attacking Senator Conroy over the Government’s filtering plan.
